Blade Runner (1982)

Genre
This acclaimed cult classic was released in 1982. It's a sci-fi film. Blade Runner falls into many sub-genres; these sub-genres range from utopia/dystopian them, robots/cyborgs and also has a tiny blend of experimental science.

Key conventions
Blade Runner contains lots of key conventions that make it a sci-fi. For example, it contains key conventions such as futuristic props (cars, ships...), robots and cyborgs. This gives it a major sci-fi feel to it as it is "futuristic".

Audience
I believe that this film is quite equal when it comes to male and female audiences. This is because it has a variety and balanced cast of male and female actors and actresses. I would say 60% male and 40% female. I think this movie is targeted at late teenagers and adults. This is because the atmosphere of this movie is dark, gritty and gloomy giving it a more serious tone and style.

Donnie Darko (2001)

Genre
This mysterious cult classic was released in 2001. It is a sci-fi film with experimental science, aliens, dystopia being its sub genres. This film is a hybrid as its other genres are mystery and drama.

Key conventions
This film, Donnie Darko, has lots key conventions that give us the idea that this film is a sci-fi. One of Donnie Darko's main convention is time travel as it is a significant theme in the film. Donnie Darko contains other key conventions such as different life forms, this is evident from one of the main characters alongside with Donnie himself. This other life form is a extraterrestrial rabbit known as "Frank". This character is mysterious and enigmatic.

Audience
I think that this film is equitably balanced in the terms of gender audience. I would say 60% male and 40%. This film is mainly targeted at young teens and adults as it contains strong language.

Matrix (1999)

Genre
This commercial success was made in 1999. Matrix is a hybrid. Matrix is a sci-fi and an action film.
Matrix's sub genres are experimental science, dystopian setting etc.

Key conventions

Matrix contains key conventions such as futuristic machinery. The colours and audio in this movie play a massive part in making it a sci-fi film. This film has more key conventions.

Audience
For this film I would think it is 50% male and 50% female, this is because both main major characters are male and female. Again, I believe that this movie is targeted at young teenagers and adults (18-50) as it contains adult themes and also strong language.

9. Jurassic World can fit into many genres such as sci-fi, adventure and also action. This is because it contains a bundle of all these genres.

10. Jurassic World appeals to a family audience because it is one of the sequels of the classic Jurassic Park (1993) meaning it will be suitable for all members of the family. The opening shot also hints that this is a film made for families this is because in the opening shot it displays a family. Another reason why this film is suitable for family audiences is because it is rated a 12A, predominantly a classic family age rating.
